Plays as a defensive midfielder. Can also perform closer to attack on central midfielder position. Can also be used as a right midfielder or right wing forward.

Born in Somalia, Ibrahim moved to Norway in 1998. He began his professional career at FC Fjellhamar in 2006. A year after, he was signed by Manchester City. In 2010, he made his debut in the FA Cup game and his English Premier League debut the same year as a substitute in a 0–0 draw against Liverpool. In 2011 he moved on a loan to the Dutch Eredivisie side NEC. He played 8 games and scored 1 goal there. 

In 2013, Ibrahim played 17 matches for Norwegian side Strømsgodset and helped them to win Tippeligaen. Since 2014 he has played for Greek sides Olympiacos, Ergotelis and Veria. In 2016 he returned to Norway, where he has played for Viking and Vålerenga before being transferred to Cypriot club FC Pafos.

Ibrahim has represented Norway at every age group from U-15 to U-21. In 2014, he made his debut in the Norwegian main national team in a 2-1 friendly win against Moldova.
